About Nadine
Nadine Flaharty CNM, MS joined Women’s Health Specialists in 2003 . She began her career as a certified nurse midwife in 1983 after working as a nurse in NYC since 1975. She received her Masters degree from Columbia University and has worked in a variety of settings as a director of midwifery services and as a staff nurse midwife before joining our practice.
Passionate about education in gynecology, she has served as a preceptor for over 300 nurse practitioner and PA students who have learned gynecologic skills under her tutelage. She has had clinical faculty appointments to Yale University, Georgetown University and other local programs.
As a logical extension of her interest in caring for women of all ages, she has taken special interest in vulvar dermatology and vulvar problems, having taken numerous advanced courses to continue to develop these skills.
She has also spoken locally, both in person and, more recently, remotely about hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome. Most recently she spoke at a remote event at the Jewish Community Center in Rockville. She continues to advocate for genetic testing for all eligible patients and family members.
Fluent also in Spanish, she has made 2 trips to Costa Rica along with Diane Snyder, MD to place IUDs in women there who would ordinarily not be able to receive this very effective form of contraception.
Ms Flaharty enjoys working with women of all ages from the older adolescent just beginning her gynecological care and seeking information about sexuality and contraception to the mature woman encountering the spectrum of menopause with new needs and questions.
When not at work, she is home with her husband Fred. She enjoys spending time with her daughter and grandchildren who live in Atlanta.
