Evaluation of Abnormal Pap Smears

The providers at Women's Health Specialists strive to provide excellent, evidenced-based, gynecologic care and we would like to inform you of the Updated Pap Smear Screening Guidelines recently recommended by the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists (ACOG).

It is now recommended that average-risk women, between 30-70 years old, undergo Pap Smear Screening and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing every 5 years.

These changes are also supported and endorsed by the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP). While these changes may be concerning to some, we are confident in these current screening guidelines and the scientific literature supporting these recommendations.

Our goal is to provide exceptional gynecologic, preventive care while minimizing unnecessary procedures and tests. We still recommend that you continue with your yearly gynecologic exams and we will review your individual history as it pertains to the updated guidelines at your visits.
