Contraceptive Care & Counseling
Talking with your doctor is an important step in figuring out which birth control method will be most effective for you based on your lifestyle and health. At Women’s Health Specialists, we will provide you with information on the types of contraceptives available, their usage and effectiveness. The decision is ultimately your own. Our job is to help you make the right choice based on your age, health and any previous experiences.
An open conversation with your doctor that includes what you want and what you’re willing to do will help your doctor recommend the best options. Are you looking for a contraception until you are ready for pregnancy or is it long-term birth control? Do you want to take a pill every day or looking for other alternatives? Genetic Screening
Genetic screening is performed to determine whether a child conceived by you and your partner would be at an increased risk of being born with a hereditary genetic disorder. Patients often seek these services before trying to become pregnant so as to be aware of any potential risks and to take certain precautions to prevent any likely genetic disorders.
Screening often involves a thorough review of personal and family medical records, as well as blood tests and genetic tests. It is important to have available an accurate family medical record that documents any miscarriages, birth defects, disorders or other relevant conditions within the family histories of both partners.
While screening can be performed on any couple, it is most often recommended when one or both partners have a genetic abnormality or there is a history of genetic disorders within family members. Your doctor will discuss the results of genetic screening with you and your partner in order to determine your child’s individual risk for the tested conditions.
In Office Anesthesia
We are pleased to offer in-office anesthesia for minor surgical procedures. Having your procedure performed in our office is both time-saving and often offers a financial saving as well. Horizon Anesthesia supplies a team of highly experienced and qualified physicians. Like the physicians at WHS, all anesthesiologists are board certified. Some of the procedures that can be quickly and efficiently performed in our surgical suite include:

Urogynecology
Urogynecologists are OB/GYNs who have undergone additional fellowship training in the diagnosis and treatment of non-cancerous pelvic floor disorders in women. The pelvic floor includes the muscles, ligaments, connective tissue and nerves that support and help control the bladder, vagina, uterus and rectum. Some common pelvic floor disorders are:
- Leakage of urine (incontinence)
- Overactive bladder (OAB), including frequent need to urinate, waking at night to urinate (nocturia), strong urge to urinate (urgency)
- Bulging, sagging or falling of pelvic organs (prolapse)
- Painful urination (dysuria)
- Difficulty urinating or having bowel movements (emptying disorders)
These and other problems can result from childbirth, aging, disease, surgery, chronic constipation, medications, repeated heavy lifting or other causes. A medical history, physical examination and tests will help the urogynecologist determine the cause of your problem and help you decide on an appropriate treatment.
