Dr. Albert Steren, a leader in the field of advanced minimally invasive surgery, is a perennially listed “TOP DOC” by Washingtonian Magazine, US News and World Report, Castle Connolly America's Top Doctors® for Cancer, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors, and Best Doctors in America. Dr Steren is the highest rated Gynecologic Oncologist in the Washington D.C .area according to Consumer Checkbook Magazine survey of Washington Metro area physicians. He was recently awarded the “Patient’s Choice Award” in an online survey evaluation of over 170,000 physicians nationwide, and was named to the Research Council of America’s “Guide to America's Top Oncologists.”
Dr. Steren has been named the Medical Director of the SRC Certified Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery- The first center in Maryland to achieve this distinguished nationwide certification. In addition, Dr. Steren is Medical Director of Gynecologic Oncology and Pelvic Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital and Medical Director of the G.A.T.E. Institute at Holy Cross, a training center for advanced laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery. He is also the Medical Director of AAGL/SRS certified Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in a consortium that includes Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Steren has been involved in training physicians from around the country and the world in advanced minimally invasive surgery and gynecologic surgery. The first gynecologist in the state of Maryland to be trained in advanced robotic surgery, Dr. Steren was instrumental in bringing the da Vinci® Surgical System to Montgomery County, and has been identified by Intuitive Surgical, Inc (maker of the da Vinci® Robot) as one of the top 15 gynecologic robotic surgeons globally!
Dr. Steren received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and is an honors graduate of George Washington University Medical School. He graduated from medical school “with distinction” and was selected to the AOA Medical Honors Society upon graduation, an honor bestowed only to the top 10% of the graduating class. Dr. Steren interned and was a resident at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and was a fellow in gynecologic oncology at the University of Miami/Jackson Medical Center.
Dr. Steren served on the state cancer council, an appointment by the Governor of Maryland. He has academic appointments at George Washington University Medical School and the Uniformed Services University School of the Health Sciences. Dr. Steren is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.

Dr. Snyder received her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a fellow of the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as being board certified. She has been in practice since 1990. She specializes in benign office gynecology with a special interest in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Dr Snyder is an accomplished speaker on all areas of women’s and adolescent health. Recent topics include contraceptive technology updates, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and menopausal issues. Dr. Snyder is proud to have earned the recognition and praise of the medical community by being named an “Outstanding Physician Specialist” in Washington Consumers' Checkbook and Washingtonian Magazine.
Dr. Barter is recognized as one of the country's leading Gynecologists/ Gynecologic Oncologists by Good Housekeeping, perennially as one of the “Top Doctors” in the Washington, D.C. area, as well as one of only two Gynecologic Oncologists noted as top doctors in Northern Virginia. He is currently a Clinical Professor at George Washington University and director of Gynecologic Oncology Research at Holy Cross Hospital.
Dr. Barter’s interests include surgery using the da Vinci® surgical robot to assist in Gynecologic/ Gynecologic Oncology cases. He has been doing robotic surgery since 2008, and now uses the novel single port technology when practicable. Dr. Barter has been doing laparoscopic surgery since the early 90's. He has lectured locally and internationally on robotic surgery. He was recently ranked in the top 15 users worldwide for robotic gynecologic and gynecologic oncology procedures, and presented the Holy Cross Hospital Gynecologic and Gynecologic Oncology experience at the Middle Atlantic Gynecologic Oncology Symposium. As director of Gynecologic Oncology Research at Holy Cross Hospital, his studies have included approximately 1400 patients involved in various research protocols. His interest in the development of a serum blood test for Ovarian Cancer detection culminated in published research involving Serum Proteomics. Dr. Barter has also been co-author on various other research efforts, most recently on chemo-sensitivity testing, and has lectured on the novel use of biologic treatments in Gynecologic Cancers.
Dr. Barter was Phi Beta Kappa at Washington and Lee University, received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, and completed two years of Internal Medicine and four years of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Alabama Medical Center. He was then at Lombardi Cancer Center / Georgetown University Medical Center for 16 years, rising to the rank of Professor. He is board certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics and Gynecology .
Dr. Levav is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her OB/GYN residency at the Medical Center of Delaware, where she was recognized and honored as the best Resident Instructor.
She had research published in the American Journal of Gerontology as well as the American Journal of Perinatology. She also presented research on abnormal Paps and the management of cervical dysplasia.
Dr. Levav is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She worked in private practice in New York for 6 years prior to moving to Maryland and joining Women's Health Specialists.
Dr. Levav has focused her surgical practice on minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Levav's background in counseling and mentoring teenagers gives her a special interest in the health concerns of young women. Her experience as a health and fitness instructor, combined with research in diabetes and nutrition, plays a vital role in her approach to caring for women's health issues. She also has a special interest in contraception, abnormal Paps, abnormal bleeding and menopausal issues.
Dr Sikka is board certified by the American college of ObGyn. She completed a 2 year sub-specialty fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica NY in 2010. Here she obtained in depth experience using state-of-the-art techniques to treat gynecologic conditions.
She pursued a 4 year residency training in ObGyn in Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, NY from 2002-2006. During her residency, she received commendation for teaching. She completed her medical school at Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. She also completed a 3 year residency training in ObGyn from there prior to coming to the United States.
Dr Sikka is an Assistant Clinical Professor at GW University School of Medicine. She is also actively involved with the AAGL (American Association for Gynecologic Laparoscopy) where she has presented papers and surgical videos at their annual conventions.
She specializes in Robotic, laparoscopic, hysteroscopic and vaginal surgeries. Her interests include management of complex gyn conditions including fibroids, pelvic pain, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. She is a COEMIG (Center for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology) certified surgeon which reflects her commitment to high quality patient care.
She lives with her husband and two young children. She loves to paint and spend time with her family.
Dr. Ebony Hoskins is a board certified gynecologic oncologist from Michigan. At a young age she determined she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. She attended Xavier University of Louisiana, with this goal in mind. After Xavier, Dr. Hoskins matriculated at Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph-Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.
While pursuing her interests in gynecologic oncology, she chose to enhance herself and skills, after residency, by completing a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Hoskins had an enlightening experience studying the molecular mechanisms behind the malignant potential of ovarian cancer cells. After her time at the NCI, Dr. Hoskins entered clinical fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Prior to her arrival here at Women's Health Specialists, Dr. Hoskins practiced gynecologic oncology for 3 years in Grand Rapids, MI. There she honed her surgical skills in gynecologic malignancies and complex gynecologic surgical problems while completing over 200 robotic assisted surgeries. Dr. Hoskins has taken special interest in the subfield of obesity and cancer due to its direct relationship in the development of endometrial cancer and cancer disparities as it relates to African-American women with endometrial cancer.
In her spare time, she loves traveling, working out, photography and laughing with family and friends.
Ms. Studley is a graduate of Cornell University with a major in Biochemical Nutrition, and completed her Physician Assistant degree at Touro College on Long Island, New York. Ms. Studley has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1985. She practiced at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY before joining Women's Health Specialists in 1996. Ms. Studley sees a wide range of patients of all ages, and has special interest in genetic breast and ovarian cancer testing and women with pelvic prolapse requiring pessaries. She is a former clinical instructor at Touro College, teaching classes in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Ms. Flaharty completed her Master’s degree at Columbia University and has been in practice as a Nurse Midwife/Practitioner for over 25 years, the last 11 years at WHS. She is currently on clinical faculty at Georgetown University as well as George Washingon University. She recently organized and presented a program on hereditary brest and ovarian cancer at the greater Washington Jewish Community Center . While she’s interested in all facets of women’s health, she especially enjoys working with teens and young adults. Other special interests include the menopausal woman as well as abnormal pap smear management. Nadine is also fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Steren has retired from active clinical practice.
